Can Junior Joeys Sign Up with RNR?

This interest has been directed to us and, as a Board, we will address it. We would consider a Junior Joey as anyone under the legal age of 18.

There definitely are roles that the juniors can fill. It is also important to keep our own succession plan in mind. However, we are all volunteers. As we look across the spectrum of disaster responses on the volunteer side of things, "juniors" do not respond with the Red Cross. Most of the church and humanitarian groups do allow juniors to respond provided they are under the watchful eye of their parent or legal guardians.

While we have been around doing what we do for almost 10 years, we operate on good will, with very limited funds and no insurance. We need to keep our liability footprint as small as possible. Kids bring a certain liability to any organization they are a part of, things being the way they are these days. One Board opinion is "I don't think we are capable of affording the necessary protections and assurances that parents would be comfortable and satisfied with."

Another opinion is that juniors can and should learn what RNR does, how to provide "soft assistance," and the many ways they could be supportive of the disaster response and disaster responders.
